David Skillicorn and his colleagues at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario have been doing some important work on how the various candidates convey truthful messages. Using a variety of computational linguistics techniques, they determine which candidates are most likely to tell a straight story versus who provide more spin than substance. Overall, Skillicorn finds that in speeches over the last two months that McCain is the most direct and truthful and that Obama provides the most spin.
